Did you know? The Castle in Disneyland Paris holds one of the most overlooked and probably most impressive animatronic Disney has ever made? The animatronic in question is none other than Disneyland’s Paris fabled Dragon. HIdden beneath the castle and chained away lies a dragon in the dark. What is amazing about this attraction is there is no line or queue. You simply find yourself walking around and suddenly you see hidden pathways to a dragon lair. This was done to fully immerse the guests in the fantasy of the land.  Known officially as La tanière du dragon the cave itself is beautifully crafted down to the finest details and features water caverns surrounding the fearsome beast in order to keep it at bay.  The dragon itself is huge to say the least and remains sleeping under the castle with shackles around it’s neck. The design is based off dragons and their depiction in older european fairytales, as an animatronic it truly is a sight to behold. Every so often the dragon begins to wake up and scan the room and the guests almost as if it is about to lash out, yet it soon falls asleep again much to the luck of everyone inside. The dragon’s origins are a bit of controversy amongst Disney fans however. Some claim it is Maleficent, while others simply say it is Merlin’s dragon due to an old park guide back in the day which claimed it as such. Either way it’s origins are beside the point. It hurts me to know that Animal Kingdom almost had a version of this dragon had beastly Kingdom been built. It would have been featured along the bridge to the land as a sort of intro to what would have been waiting for guests once inside.
